True Riches: Matthew 6:20-21
Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven…. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:20-21 (NIV)
Legend has it that the Dutchman’s Treasure lies hidden in an Arizona mine. Generations of treasure hunters have tried and failed to find these elusive riches. Many sincere people seek God in much the same way—perhaps through study, good works, sacrifice or even pilgrimages to “sacred sites.” Although the ways in which God reveals Himself are limitless, Deuteronomy 30:14 (NIV) tells us we don’t need to move an inch to find Him because the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it. God is as close as our home, office, car, wheelchair, sick bed—even as our most feeble prayer. Those who seek God through their own efforts are passing Him by, for He waits at every human heart. Responding to God and communing with Him are a treasure we carry through this life…and into eternity.
