At Thanksgiving we faithfully count our blessings; for most of us, they are numerous. While we are quickly calculating our wealth, we sometimes forget the rest of the equation: From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded (Luke 12:48, NIV1984). What God asks may be different for each person. For one, it may be donating money to buy gifts for needy children. Another person may be asked to extend open arms and even an open home to someone who has been abandoned. Another might find a calling in tutoring, prison ministries or soup kitchens.
The holiday season is filled with opportunities to reach out to those who need a touch of heaven. There are few greater ways to thank God than by reaching out to others in God’s name.
