Our Personal Trainer: Psalm 89:8
O Lord God of hosts, who is a strong Lord like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee? (Psalm 89:8 KJV)
A trend in the fitness world is to have a personal trainer—someone who assesses your physical status and creates a program to help you reach your goals. Lifting weights, running, swimming and new dietary measures might be a part of the regimen. Physical fitness serves us for a lifetime—spiritual fitness for eternity. Paul comments, Bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come (1 Timothy 4:8). Strengthening the spirit can be as time-consuming and painful as strengthening the body. Our resolve is often tested. The results, however, carry us triumphantly through this life and prepare us for the next. The Holy Spirit is our personal trainer, remaining at the side of those seeking a closer relationship with the Lord. He is not exclusive to those wealthy enough to employ Him. And He never resigns.
