I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. John 14:18

On Our Side

On a pleasant day, a family was relaxing on a bench beside a park and tennis court. The rhythm of tennis balls being smacked back and forth accompanied the family’s laughter. Suddenly, a young man on the tennis court stopped his game to glare at the family. They quickly realized he thought their laughter had been directed at him and his game. Had he missed the ball? Did he fumble? No one had really noticed. But in many aspects of life, we all miss the mark. This is called sin. But God does not mock us from the sidelines. He is our teammate—Paraclete—called to one’s side. The meaning of this Greek word is captured in John 14:17 (NIV): He lives with you and will be in you. No matter how and when we fumble and fall, God picks us up to try again.
