I lift up mine eyes-Psalm 121:1

At Home in the Hills

Living in Oregon, it’s easy to lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help (Psalm 121:1). Hills are in abundance all around us. But these hills, mountains actually, have much more meaning to me than their mere existence. I first heard Psalm 121:1 as a very young child, and I took it literally! I was taught that God is everywhere, but somehow I felt that when He went home at night, God went to the hills. And why wouldn’t He? Peace and quiet, towering trees to rest under, fish in the brook and berries on the hillsides—a place to replenish Himself and get ready for the next day. Now, as a middle-aged person, I know better…or do I?
