Thou art my hope, O Lord God. Psalm 71:5

My neighbor took one Saturday to put out a hummingbird feeder. He assembled it from a kit and labored over the proper location and the blend of syrup. He worked so hard because he had a hope—he hoped he would be watching when a hummingbird came there to feed. Unfortunately, I never saw one at my neighbor’s feeder. The birds, in spite of his best effort, in spite of his ardent hope, never showed up. But I enjoyed hoping a hummingbird wish with him. That was something beautiful in and of itself. Hope also plays a major role in the life of a Christian. As the Bible says in Hebrews 11:1, Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Living with hope, we bring substance to ideas and dreams so we can share hope with others. May your hopes be as contagious as a hummingbird hope!
