A Lost Art?
Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book! Job 19:23
Long before answering machines, computer e-mail and text messaging, people took pen and ink in hand and wrote letters. The beautiful penmanship and elegant sentiments of these letters are now treasured as heirlooms, capturing an era gone by. Today, letter writing has become virtually obsolete—a lost art. Could the same be said of our communication with God? Our lives can become so busy that we barely speak with close family members, much less to our God who may seem so far away. Yet our communication with God is vitally important in maintaining a Christian lifestyle. King David recognized this truth, asking God to lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation (Psalm 25:5). Let’s take time today for prayer, Bible study…and maybe even for writing a letter to God.
