They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” Luke 24:32 (NIV)

Watching the bright orange flames dance up from our campfire, I felt the Holy Spirit was calling me. “Pay attention,” the Spirit said, “God is here, at work in these senior high students gathered around you!” My view shifted from the fire to the handful of youth around it. They were singing from a Christian songbook I had tossed in the van before we left. It didn’t matter that we were in a crowded campground or that it was after quiet-hours or that they didn’t always sing on key. They simply sang their hearts out. And in that moment, we all were being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit (Ephesians 2:22, NIV). United in the Lord. Bonded together in Christian fellowship. What a blessing for them, but what a revelation for me…a glimpse of God in action.
